COLOMBO, 27 October 2026: Sri Lankan MP Namal Rajapaksa has sought bail in the Krrish transaction case, citing his mother’s medical condition. The Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court is expected to issue an order on 28 October, after the Bribery Commission requested time to examine supporting documents.
Rajapaksa’s Lawyer Cites Mother’s Medical Emergency
President’s Counsel Ali Sabry told the court that Rajapaksa’s mother, former First Lady Shiranthi Rajapaksa, was scheduled to undergo open-heart surgery at 4 p.m. on Tuesday. He said she used a pacemaker and that Rajapaksa’s father was also in poor health.
Sabry argued that Rajapaksa wished to see his mother before the operation because he feared he might not have another opportunity, depending on her condition.
According to Daily Mirror, the Bribery Commission requested an opportunity to examine the documents supporting the application and make submissions.
The magistrate directed that the documents be provided to the commission and scheduled an order for 28 October 2026.
Earlier Bail Application Rejected in Krrish Case
The case concerns allegations involving the Krrish Group and the alleged giving and receiving of a Rs. 70 million bribe. The Bribery Commission arrested Rajapaksa in connection with the allegations.
On 23 October, Colombo Chief Magistrate Asanga S. Bodaragama rejected his earlier bail application and extended his remand until 6 November.
The allegations have not been established as criminal guilt.
The fresh application asks the court to reconsider Rajapaksa’s custody in light of his family’s medical circumstances. The earlier remand order remains in effect unless the court grants bail, with the next decision scheduled for 28 October 2026.
