New Delhi, June 22: NLC India Limited (NLCIL) has further strengthened its legacy of social responsibility and community development through the inauguration of a modern auditorium at Sneha Opportunity School (SOS) and the completion of major infrastructure improvements at the historic Veludayanpattu Sri Siva Subramania Swamy Temple in Neyveli, Tamil Nadu.
Long before Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) became a formal mandate, NLC India had been actively working to uplift underprivileged and marginalized communities through education, healthcare, skill development and social welfare initiatives. One of its most impactful initiatives is the Sneha Opportunity School, which provides free education, day-care services and skill development opportunities for differently abled and special children.
In a significant milestone for the institution, the company transformed an existing open shed within the school campus into a fully functional state-of-the-art auditorium at a project cost of โน22 lakh. The new facility includes a spacious hall, stage, green room and modern sanitation facilities designed to support educational, cultural and developmental activities for students.
The project was completed ahead of its stipulated timeline of 120 days through efficient planning and execution. Equipped with modern amenities, high-quality false ceilings and vitrified tile flooring, the auditorium will provide a comfortable and inclusive environment where students can participate in events, showcase their talents, build confidence and strengthen social interactions.
The auditorium was inaugurated on 20 June 2026 by Smt. Radhika Prasanna Kumar Motupalli, President of Sneha Opportunity School, in the presence of Shri Prasanna Kumar Motupalli, Chairman and Managing Director of NLC India Limited, Shri Samir Swarup, Director (HR), Shri B. Vaidyanathan, CGM (Township Administration) and Dr. Vijayakumari, Secretary of SOS.
Addressing the gathering, Shri Prasanna Kumar Motupalli congratulated the school management and project team for completing the auditorium in record time. He highlighted that the school had adopted several best practices after studying similar institutions across India, including the introduction of a computer laboratory, mid-day meal programme and free transportation facilities. These initiatives have contributed to a remarkable increase in student enrollment, with the schoolโs strength doubling to 114 students.
The CMD emphasized that serving special children is a noble responsibility and recalled the visit of former President Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, who had appreciated the institutionโs efforts toward empowering differently abled children. He also acknowledged the dedicated efforts of Smt. Radhika Motupalli in continuously improving the standards of the school.
Speaking on the occasion, Smt. Radhika Motupalli reiterated the schoolโs mission of supporting children with intellectual disabilities and expressed gratitude to NLC India Limited for its unwavering support in enhancing educational infrastructure and creating a nurturing environment for students.
In another significant community-focused initiative, NLC India completed the renovation of the Veludayanpattu Sri Siva Subramania Swamy Temple, popularly known as Veludayanpattu Murugan Kovil, one of the most revered temples in the Neyveli region. The temple is known for its unique depiction of Lord Murugan holding a bow and seven arrows instead of the traditional Vel.
Following the successful Kumbabishekam ceremony held in March 2026, NLC India renovated the templeโs praharam at a cost of โน1.58 crore. The upgraded structure was formally dedicated to devotees on 20 June 2026 by Shri Prasanna Kumar Motupalli and Smt. Radhika Prasanna Kumar Motupalli, in the presence of senior company officials.
A notable feature of the renovated structure is the use of alloy steel, ensuring enhanced durability and resistance to corrosion. The temple praharam has also been artistically decorated with depictions of Lord Murugaโs six sacred abodes (Arupadai Veedu), adding significant spiritual and cultural value to the site.
Through these initiatives, NLC India Limited continues to demonstrate its commitment to inclusive growth, educational empowerment, heritage preservation and community welfare, creating lasting social impact in its project regions.

Future Outlook
As a leading Navratna public sector enterprise, NLC India Limited plans to scale up its community development programs alongside its core power generation and mining expansions. The adoption of advanced engineering materials, such as the alloy steel utilized in the temple renovation, sets a precedent for durable public infrastructure modeling in future township development.
