New York House Delegation: Democrats Win 20 Seats
Following the November 3, 2026, midterm elections, the Associated Press has called all 26 New York congressional races, projecting 20 Democratic seats and six Republican seats, according to Gothamist.
New York’s results gave Democrats a net gain of one seat, while the Associated Press projected a national Democratic House majority of 254 seats to 162. The state’s only partisan flip came in the Hudson Valley.
Democrats Flip Hudson Valley Seat
In the 17th Congressional District, Democratic challenger Cait Conley defeated Republican incumbent Mike Lawler. Conley received 163,245 votes (52.9%), compared with Lawler’s 145,060 (47.0%).
The Associated Press called the contest on November 6.
In the 21st District, Republican Anthony Constantino, chief executive of Sticker Mule, retained the Republican seat with 140,126 votes (50.9%), defeating Democratic dairy farmer Blake Gendebien, who received 134,399 (48.8%).
The North Country contest followed the departure of former U.S. Rep.
Elise Stefanik, whose exit left the district open. District-level figures published by NYS Focus show Republicans holding the seat despite the Democratic gain elsewhere.
Long Island Maintains Even Split
Long Island retained its 2-2 partisan split. Democrats Tom Suozzi (55.0%) and Laura Gillen (56.6%) won reelection, alongside Republicans Nick LaLota (51.1%) and Andrew Garbarino (51.1%).
New York City’s delegation will continue to include just one Republican after Nicole Malliotakis defeated Democrat Mike DeCillis. Democratic leader Hakeem Jeffries also retained his 8th District seat with 78.9% of the vote.
Election Certification Remains Outstanding
The New York State Board of Elections has not yet certified the results. County election boards must complete their canvassing procedures, including reviews of outstanding military, overseas and challenged absentee ballots.
The projected winners are scheduled to take office on January 3, 2027. Until certification is complete, the reported vote totals remain unofficial.
