NYC Weather: Windy, wet fall week ahead as temperatures cool down.

NYC Weather Forecast: Strong Winds, Rain and Colder Days

New York City faces a windy, wet week beginning Monday, November 9, with gusts approaching 35 mph before Thursday rain and a Friday temperature drop to 46°F.

Monday, November 9, is forecast to bring sustained west-northwest winds of 17 to 19 mph, with gusts approaching 30 to 35 mph. The stronger winds could make daytime temperatures feel closer to the upper 40s and lower 50s.

The forecast follows a relatively mild Sunday, November 8, when temperatures were near 56°F to 60°F and the daytime precipitation probability stood at 10%.

Early Week Temperatures and Winds

Tuesday and Wednesday, November 10-11, are forecast to bring daytime highs of 57°F to 61°F, with overnight lows between 47°F and 49°F.

Increasing atmospheric moisture ahead of Thursday’s frontal system will bring a shift toward cloudier, wetter conditions after the relatively dry start to the week. A pressure gradient between departing low pressure over southeastern Canada and high pressure to the southwest is contributing to the westerly winds.

Thursday Rain and Friday Cooling

Rain becomes more likely on Thursday, November 12, with a 75% chance of precipitation during the afternoon and evening and relative humidity reaching 86% to 87%.

By Friday, November 13, precipitation probability falls to 25% to 30%, while the daytime high drops to approximately 46°F. Colder air arriving behind the front accounts for the roughly 12-degree temperature decline.

Colder Conditions Into the Weekend

Overnight lows are projected to approach 40°F during the following weekend, signaling a colder late-autumn pattern.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Climate Prediction Center provides seasonal outlooks expressed as probabilities rather than guaranteed outcomes. Its guidance states: “The outlook is expressed in probabilities, rather than a prediction that precipitation will be a specific percentage below normal.”

The National Weather Service oversees operational weather advisories, which are distinct from modeled wind speeds and precipitation probabilities.
