Chiefs Lead Jets 35-12 Late in Fourth Quarter as Kelce Scores on Goal-Line Play

The Kansas City Chiefs held a 35-12 lead over the New York Jets with 2:02 remaining in the fourth quarter on November 8. Travis Kelce’s third-quarter touchdown highlighted Kansas City’s offensive performance at Arrowhead Stadium.

The decisive play came on fourth-and-goal from the 1-yard line. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes delivered a two-handed shovel pass to Kelce, who carried the ball across the goal line for a 1-yard rushing touchdown.

The official statistical classification credited Kelce with a rushing score rather than a receiving touchdown. The Chiefs video shows the scoring play.

The touchdown was Kelce’s 87th career touchdown. His contribution also extended beyond the scoring play: the tight end recorded four receptions on six targets for 72 yards, averaging 18 yards per catch.

His longest reception covered 38 yards.

Mahomes completed the game situation’s offensive production with 242 passing yards, two touchdown passes and no interceptions. Kansas City also recorded 26 first downs and converted five of 10 third-down attempts, compared with 15 first downs and two conversions on 12 attempts for New York.

Defensively, George Karlaftis recorded two sacks and three tackles for loss, helping disrupt the Jets’ passing attack. New York quarterback Geno Smith had been sacked five times and recorded 165 passing yards.

The Chiefs’ 23-point advantage reflected their control of the matchup late in regulation. The reported score remained an in-progress game result at the latest verified update, rather than a confirmed final.
