The Beatles Story Heads To St Johns

Key Takeaway: The Beatles Story in Liverpool will relocate in 2028 to a 100,000 sq ft site at the former St Johns Market. A number of the immersive locations will be created using sets and props from the upcoming cinematic event.

The Beatles Story in Liverpool is scheduled to move in 2028 from its Albert Dock home to a 100,000 sq ft site at the former St Johns Market in St Johns Shopping Centre. The new location sits directly opposite Liverpool Lime Street station.

The upcoming venue will occupy a footprint more than four times the size of the current attraction. Immersive locations will be constructed using actual sets and props from Sam Mendes and his four Beatles biopics, titled ‘The Beatles: A Four-Film Cinematic Event’ and scheduled for release worldwide by Sony Pictures in April 2028. Fans can expect recreated environments such as The Cavern, Abbey Road, Shea Stadium, and Savile Row, alongside settings representing Hamburg, post-war Liverpool, and the height of Beatlemania.

In addition to the main attraction, St Johns Beacon will house a Yellow Submarine-themed 360-degree viewing experience, offering panoramic views of Liverpool from the city’s second-tallest building. Apple Corps is set to take over running the current Beatles Story in 2027 ahead of the official move, establishing Liverpool as its second permanent Beatles experience following a London opening at 3 Savile Row at the end of 2027. Visitors will be able to bundle tickets for The Beatles Story and the St Johns Beacon viewing experience, and every ticket sold to The Beatles Story will contribute to the Apple Corps Liverpool Trust to support emerging Liverpool artists.

Relocation and expansion

The scale of the move is the headline: 100,000 sq ft at the former St Johns Market, more than quadrupling the attraction’s current footprint at Albert Dock. The new site places the experience in the heart of the city centre, directly opposite one of its main transport hubs.

The connection to the films is what makes the timing work. Once the cameras stop rolling on the four biopics, many of the sets and props will move straight into the attraction, giving visitors a walk through the physical world of the productions.

Liverpool birthed the greatest band in history and today we are announcing a new experience in the city that does justice to that legacy.

Tom Greene, CEO of Apple Corps

Leadership and legacy

Development partners for the ambitious project include Apple Corps, Liverpool City Council, and the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority, with backing from the UK government. Fans interested in the new development can register their interest directly through the official Beatles website.

The cast portraying the iconic band members across the cinematic projects includes Paul Mescal as Paul McCartney, Harris Dickinson as John Lennon, Joseph Quinn as George Harrison, and Barry Keoghan as Ringo Starr. Local leadership highlighted the broader cultural and economic impact of the initiative for the region.
