Billy Bob Thornton to Host FOX Nation Mayflower Docudrama
FOX Nation has partnered with Academy Award-winning actor Billy Bob Thornton to host and executive produce a three-part historical docudrama, *Billy Bob Thornton Presents: The Mayflower*, scheduled to premiere on 23 November 2026, according to the network’s announcement.
The streaming service announced the project on 27 October 2026, positioning its release immediately ahead of the American Thanksgiving holiday. The programme will examine the Mayflower’s Atlantic crossing in 1620 and the relationships that developed between English settlers and Native American communities.
Lauren Petterson, president of FOX Nation, announced the production as part of the platform’s Thanksgiving programming. The project brings Thornton, known for his starring role in *Landman*, to a historical television series examining the early Plymouth settlement.
The network’s announcement was also distributed through Morningstar, carrying the same partnership announcement.
What the Mayflower Series Will Cover
The docudrama will follow the English settlers who travelled across the Atlantic aboard the Mayflower in 1620, focusing on the challenges of their voyage and their experiences after arriving in North America.
FOX Nation says the programme will examine the early alliance with the Wampanoag and the conflicts that followed the settlers’ arrival. Its historical scope therefore extends from the Atlantic crossing to relations between the two communities.
The subject matter places the settlers’ experiences alongside their encounters with Indigenous people, rather than treating the ocean voyage as the conclusion of the story.
The network has described the production as a historical docudrama, with the Mayflower crossing and the establishment of the Plymouth settlement providing the central narrative.
Billy Bob Thornton’s Involvement
Thornton’s participation brings an established film and television actor to the historical project. FOX Nation identifies him as an Academy Award winner and highlights his work in *Landman* in announcing the partnership.
The actor’s involvement is central to the programme’s presentation, with his name appearing in the official title.
The historical subject also represents a different type of television production from the contemporary drama for which Thornton is currently known.
Why the Thanksgiving Timing Matters
The Thanksgiving release window connects the programme’s subject matter with the American holiday traditionally associated with early Plymouth history.
The portrayal of Native American communities will be one element on which the finished historical production can be assessed.
By including the relationship between the English arrivals and the Wampanoag, FOX Nation has identified a part of the historical narrative that extends beyond the journey itself.
